Sausalito

Across the Golden Gate Bridge just two miles north of San Francisco, lies the picturesque waterfront community of Sausalito, world renowned for its Mediterranean flair and breathtaking views. With easy access to the dramatic north coast and wine country, Sausalito is the gateway to some of the most beautiful and desired destinations in the world. In addition to an impressive array of first-class restaurants and waterfront inns, the city is also a world-class venue for every sort of outdoor and nautical activity imaginable.

The city's name was originally derived from two Spanish words meaning "grove" and "willow" which were combined to denote "a place of abundance." In the mid-20th century, the city's industrial character evolved into a reputation as vibrant artistic enclave, a charming residential houseboat community, and a sophisticated travel destination.

Sausalito's cultural history is peppered with a fascinating cast of characters, ranging from bootleggers and rum runners, to publishing magnates and entertainment superstars! Notable residents of Sausalito have included William Randolph Hearst, actress Julie Christie, gangster Baby Face Nelson, musician Otis Redding, children's book author Shel Silverstein, and novelists Isabel Allende and Amy Tan.

Sausalito trivia: Under the banner "not all great music comes out of LA" is the illustrious history of The Plant, a prolific recording studio which was for many years the choice of Grammy Award-winning artists like Fleetwood Mac, The Doobie Brothers, Sly and the Family Stone, Huey Lewis, Tracy Chapman, Van Morrison, The Grateful Dead, Kronos Quartet, and Carlos Santana, just to name a few.
