Larkspur
Tucked into the eastern edge of Mount Tamalpais, the town of Larkspur enjoys the finest weather in Marin County. The wooded canyons were once favorite hunting grounds of Spanish settlers, and today it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Larkspur's charming downtown area along Magnolia Avenue, offers delightful shops, bistros and landmarks, including the restored art deco Lark Theatre which features first-run and independent feature films.
Larkspur homes are distinct with diverse architectures, including log cabins, Victorians, Spanish, mission-style, New England, Tudor, and contemporary. Settings range from deep canyons of Redwood, Bay and Madrone trees, to creek-side developments. Adjacent to Larkspur's downtown is Madrone Canyon, which is a residential area and a redwood grove.
Within the town limits is Larkspur Landing with ferry transportation serving San Francisco and Tiburon, across from which is a shopping center with restaurants, shops, cafes, hotels, and community resources such as AAA.
Famed musician Janis Joplin's last known residence was located in Larkspur at 380 West Baltimore Drive. Novelist/playwright Ki Longfellow grew up in Larkspur's Madrone Canyon.
